Xperia X 2017 is the upcoming flagship from Sony in the Xperia X series. The next Xperia X flagship will come with significant improvements over its predecessor. Sony will improve the design in the upcoming flagship. Sony may use Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and rear sides of Xperia X (2017) to give premium appearance. Gorilla glass 5 also offers great protection compared to its predecessors.

Previously, Xperia X came with fingerprint sensor integrated within the home button. But Sony may shift the fingerprint sensor to rear in the successor of Xperia X. Dedicated Camera Shatter button may also be present in the next flagship from Sony.

Display and Resolution

Previously, Sony launched Xperia X with 5 inch Display with FHD resolution. So the next flagship in Sony X series may also come with 5 inch Triluminos IPS LCD Display with 1080p resolution. Hence, Sony X (2017) Display will show vibrant colours and also images appear crystal clear. Sony may reduce the side bezels to increase screen to body ratio upto 75%.

Processor and Ram

According to latest rumours, the forthcoming Xperia X flagship might be powered by Snapdragon 660 chipset which is the best choice for upper mid-range devices. Recently Qualcomm announced Snapdragon 660 chipset which features many revolutionary improvements. According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon 660 will be the most powerful chipset in the 600 tier.

Snapdragon 660 chipset coming with Eight cores of Kryo 260 clocked upto 2.2 Ghz. It also contains Adreno 512 GPU and X12 LTE Modem. It also has support for Bluetooth 5.0

As Snapdragon 660 is built on 14 nm process, it offers great performance and low battery consumption compared to previous 600 tier chipsets built on 28nm process. X12 LTE Modem in Snapdragon 660 SoC supports Cat. 12 download speeds upto 600 Mbps and Cat. 13 upload speeds upto 150 Mbps.

Previously Xperia X (2016) sported 3 GB Ram. Sony may continue the same Ram in the successor of Xperia X. Sony will improve the Ram performance in the Xperia X (2017) to facilitate breeze like multi tasking. So we can run Graphic and Ram intensive games on Sony X (2017) without any lag. Previously, Xperia X featured 23 MP Rear Camera with LED flash and 13 MP Front Camera . In the successor of Xperia X also the same Camera setup may continue. Rear Camera of Sony X 2017 may support AutoHDR, Auto Exposure and Burst mode features. Front Camera of Xperia X (2017) may support Auto HDR feature. Rear Camera may support 2K video recording and Front Camera may support FHD video recording.

Internal Storage

The next Xperia X flagship comes in two internal memory variants : 32GB and 64GB. Sony may use UFS memory in this flagship to improve read and write speeds. The upcoming Xperia X also features MicroSD slot expand memory upto 128GB.


Previously, Xperia X flagship came with 2620 mAh Li-Ion battery. The successor of Xperia X may come with 2800 mAh Non-removable Li-Po Battery with Quick Charge 4 support. Sony may optimize to android OS and chipset to consume less battery. Xperia X (2017) features Stamina Mode and Ultra Stamina mode to reduce battery usage. Quick Charge 3.0

Xperia X (2017) is coming with Quick Charge 3.0 support which reduces charges much faster. Quick charge 3.0 is about 40% faster than Quick Charge 1.0 and much power efficient than Quick Charge 2.0 and 1.0. The INOV (Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage) feature of Quick Charge 3.0 supports any voltage between 3.2 V and 20 V at 200 mV increments. So the next iteration in Xperia X lineup will charge quickly and also efficiently.

Bluetooth 5.0

According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon 660 SoC is coming with Bluetooth 5.0 technology, which is a major improvement over the previous Bluetooth 4.2. So Xperia X 2017 flagship will feature Bluetooth 5 support. Bluetooth 5.0 offers four times range and double speed over its predecessor. Some testers claim that Bluetooth 5.0 can work up to 800 ft range. Bluetooth 5.0 is also built to support for IoT (Internet of Things). Bluetooth 5.0 is also designed to provide better Location services. Energy usage is also reduced in this Bluetooth version compared to its predecessor. Android 7.1.2 Nougat

Recently Sony unveiled the Xperia XZ Premium flagship with inbuilt Android 7.1 OS. Sony always uses the latest android version in its flagship phones. So in Xperia X (2017), Sony may use the Android 7.1.2 operating system. Android 7.1.2 runs smoother, faster and safer than Android 7.0 Nougat. So the next flagship from Sony runs much smoother and faster than its predecessor. Touch latency may also be improved in the next Xperia X. So touch response time decreases and responds faster than its predecessor.

Some bluetooth bugs and Wifi bugs are fixed in the Android 7.1.2 update. A new feature of Android 7.1.2, Battery usage alerts is useful to monitor the apps which drains more battery. In the Europe, the price of 32GB internal memory variant may start from €650. 64 GB internal memory variant might be priced around $650 in the US and €700 in Europe.
